Instant marketing gratification..



In the last few years working with brokers we have seen an enormous amount of confusion creep into the world of marketing. Especially the online world. We observe brokers (mainly the younger ones – or the 'older ones' being influenced by the younger ones) jump from one marketing platform to another before the first one has even had a chance to take place. What's that about?

We are an instant gratification society and we want instant results. And why shouldn't we?

Have you ever sent an email to someone and because they didn't reply immediately within 3 micro seconds you jumped straight on the phone? The email hardly had a chance to arrive.

So why didn't we just pick up the phone in the first place?
Is it because:
  • we didn't think we had the time?
  • we didn't really want to have to talk to anyone?
  • we couldn’t be bothered?
It is likely we have all done this at some stage.

Our observation with people's expectations with marketing is pretty much the same.

For example… we send out an email campaign and expect instant results.
BUT we didn't put many people on the list to receive the email?
And guess what – the campaign doesn't work!

OR
We didn't have a clear 'call to action' for the recipients of the email?

OR
It was a sales pitch instead of an educational and informative piece of content that would inspire them to reply or pick up the phone?

OR
It was poorly written, looked unprofessional and had spelling errors in it?
Do you know how many times we see 'Morgage' broker on websites, campaigns and social media?
Heaps!
And guess what - the campaign doesn't work!

So why do we take short cuts?
It could be any of these reasons:
  • I’m too busy to do that
  • I don't have the time
  • I don't have the resources
  • I don't have the money
  • I couldn't be bothered
  • I don't know enough people
  • I don't really know what to do or how to do it
  • I don't take the time to research, plan, create, prepare
  • I don't test and measure
  • I don't track my results to see if my marketing is working or not.
We take short cuts to success and then wonder why it doesn't work.

Even when you out-source to others, there is still some activity, preparation AND learning to understand how to get the 'instant results' that you are after.

So with such a confusing world of online and digital marketing, automation, social media, website optimisation, ad words, Facebook ads… we are not surprised that it is hard to make a decision on where to spend your marketing dollar and invest your precious time.
